PrepQuest Privacy Policy
Effective September 25, 2026
PrepQuest is a meal-prep app played as a fantasy adventure. It is built to work without an account, and the developer does not run any servers that receive your data. This policy explains what stays on your device, what leaves it, and why.
The short version
- No account, no sign-up, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking.
- Your meal plans, recipes, shopping lists, check-ins and game progress are stored on your iPhone.
- If you turn on iCloud sync, your save is stored in your own private iCloud account, which the developer cannot read.
- If you join a Guild Hall raid, only your hero name, hero class and weekly progress counts are shared with your guild.
- We never sell or rent data.
Data stored on your device
PrepQuest saves your adventurer name, hero choices, recipes (including recipes you write), meal plans, shopping lists, cooking timers, meal check-ins, gold, items and settings in a database on your device. If you enter optional details for the nutrition target (such as weight or activity level), those are stored on your device too and are used only to calculate a suggested range.
You can export this data as a backup file from Settings, and deleting the app removes it from your device.
iCloud sync and backup (optional)
If you turn on iCloud sync or iCloud backup, PrepQuest saves a copy of your game data in the private database of your iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. This data is protected by your Apple ID and is not accessible to the developer. Apple's handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy. You can turn sync off at any time in Settings, and you can manage or delete iCloud data in your device's iCloud settings.
Guild Hall raids (optional)
When you create or join a guild with a guild code, PrepQuest stores the following in the app's public CloudKit database so your guild members can see it:
- the guild name you choose,
- your hero name and hero class, and
- for the current week, how many meal-prep batches you completed and on how many days you logged a meal.
Anyone with your guild code can see this information. Your recipes, meals, food choices and nutrition details are never shared. CloudKit identifies you only by an anonymous, app-specific ID, and we don't receive your name, email or Apple ID. We suggest using a hero name rather than your real name. Leaving a guild removes your member entry.
Nearby co-op play (optional)
Nearby guild parties connect directly to devices on the same local network or over Bluetooth. Your hero name and party progress are exchanged only with the players you connect to, and nothing is sent to the developer.
Barcode scanning (optional)
The camera reads barcodes on your device, and camera images are never saved or uploaded. To identify a product, PrepQuest sends only the barcode number to Open Food Facts, a free public food database. No personal information is sent with it.
Voice commands (optional)
If you enable hands-free cooking, PrepQuest uses the microphone to listen for short commands such as "Next step." Speech is recognized on your device, and audio is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere.
Grocery delivery (optional, where available)
If you choose "Shop these on Instacart," PrepQuest sends the names and amounts of the ingredients you haven't gathered yet to Instacart to create a shopping list. If you choose "Add to my Kroger cart," you sign in on Kroger's own page (PrepQuest never sees your Kroger password), and PrepQuest sends ingredient names to Kroger to find products and add them to your cart. What happens after that is governed by Instacart's or Kroger's privacy policy.
Notifications and Live Activities
Cooking timers and reminders are scheduled locally on your device. They don't go through a server.
Keeper's Charter subscription
The optional Keeper's Charter subscription is purchased and managed through Apple. Apple processes the payment, and we receive no payment details. The app checks your subscription status with Apple on your device. Monthly recipe chests are downloaded from the app's public iCloud database; downloading them sends no personal information.
Children
PrepQuest is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. Guild Hall features show only the hero names players choose.
Health and food safety
Nutrition figures are estimates and are not medical advice. Always check product labels for allergens, and follow safe food-storage guidance.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above. Any significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
